The sign where your chart's most common element and modality meet. How it's chosen, how it differs from the Big 3, and what happens without a birth time.
Your Signature Sign is the sign that combines the element and the modality that show up most often across your whole birth chart.
Your Sun sign is where one body, the Sun, sits. Your Signature Sign shows the overall mood that many bodies in your chart create together.
How it's chosen
There's no complicated formula. You simply count the element and modality of the sign each body sits in.
1. The 11 points to count
Count the Sun, the Moon, the Ascendant and 8 planets (Mercury Venus Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto). Points such as the lunar nodes, Chiron and Lilith are not counted.
2. Count the elements
For each of the 11, count one for the element (Fire, Earth, Air, Water) of the sign it's in. The Sun and Pluto count the same: one each.
3. Count the modalities
Count the modalities of the same 11: Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable.
4. Find the sign where both meet
Only one of the 12 signs has both the most common element and the most common modality. That sign is your Signature Sign.
5. When there's a tie
If two or more elements, or two or more modalities, tie for the top, the element or modality of your Ascendant decides.
Example
Fire 4, Earth 2, Air 3, Water 2 and Cardinal 5, Fixed 3, Mutable 3: the Fire and Cardinal sign, Aries, is the Signature Sign. Even with the Sun in Leo, the Signature Sign can be Aries.
Element × modality = 12 squares
The 4 elements and 3 modalities meet once each to make the 12 signs, so an element plus a modality always points to exactly one sign.
The bingo board on the Signature Sign screen is this very grid of 12.
Fire
♈︎ Aries (Cardinal) ♌︎ Leo (Fixed) ♐︎ Sagittarius (Mutable)
Earth
♑︎ Capricorn (Cardinal) ♉︎ Taurus (Fixed) ♍︎ Virgo (Mutable)
Air
♎︎ Libra (Cardinal) ♒︎ Aquarius (Fixed) ♊︎ Gemini (Mutable)
Water
♋︎ Cancer (Cardinal) ♏︎ Scorpio (Fixed) ♓︎ Pisces (Mutable)
How is it different from the Big 3?
The Sun, Moon and Ascendant (the Big 3) are each the sign of a single point. The Sun shows who you want to become, the Moon how you feel at ease, and the Ascendant the first impression you give. The Signature Sign counts all 11 and shows the tone that comes through most in everyday life.
If your Sun sign and Signature Sign match, your chart leans in one direction. If they differ, your chart holds several tones at once. Neither is better.
Why does it matter?
Sometimes your Sun sign description doesn't quite feel like you. Because the Signature Sign looks at the balance of the whole chart rather than one body, it can explain that gap.
Stellog uses your Signature Sign as a clue in the MBTI report.
It's also used for the Signature Sign bingo board and friend comparisons.
If you don't know your birth time
The Ascendant can only be set with a birth time. Without one, the Ascendant is left out and only 10 points are counted.
If there's a tie, there's no Ascendant to break it, so the app picks one in a fixed order. That's why the result can differ from the one with a known birth time.
The Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, so without a birth time even your Moon sign may differ from the real one.
Once set, it stays
The sign on the Signature Sign screen stays the same once it's set, even if you edit the birth details in your profile. If you've since learned your birth time, create a new profile.
The bingo board
The bingo board has 12 squares: 4 rows and 3 columns. Rows are elements and columns are modalities. Each square is one sign.
Your square
The square for your own Signature Sign is filled from the start.
Friends' squares
When a friend joins through your link, the square for their Signature Sign fills in. Each friend counts only once.
Lines and the full board
A row is 3 squares of one element, and a column is 4 squares of one modality. You can earn rewards for completing a line, getting 3 people in one square, or filling all 12 squares. In your own square, you count as one person.
Among people with a known birth time, the 12 signs come up at similar but not equal rates: about 6% for the rarest and about 10% for the most common. So your last square may stay empty for a while.
Relationship type
Once you connect with a friend, your relationship type is set from the angles the planets in your two charts make to each other (synastry). It isn't based on your Signature Signs.
The app picks the one planet theme that stands out most between you, then checks whether its angles are easy (harmony) or tense (tension). 12 themes × harmony or tension = 24 types.
The Sun and Moon come out strong between almost any two people, so each planet's score is divided by its basic weight. That way the app finds the theme that stands out for you two in particular.
Sun

Moon

Mercury

Venus
affection
Mars
desire and action
Jupiter
generosity
Saturn
commitment
Uranus
need for freedom
Neptune

Pluto

North Node

Chiron

A tension type doesn't mean a bad relationship. It points to where you grow by adjusting to each other.
Comparing with friends
1. Send your link
Send your link to a friend from the Signature Sign screen.
2. Your friend joins
Your friend logs in and joins with their own profile.
3. Saved for both of you
You're added to each other's bingo board and compatibility ranking.
On your pair screen you'll see your relationship type, both Signature Signs, your element pairing, modality pairing and Big 3 comparison. The element pairing compares your temperaments; the modality pairing compares how you start, sustain and change things.
Your birth date, time and place are never shown to the other person. Only your name, Signature Sign, Big 3, compatibility score and relationship type are visible.
Common misunderstandings
"My Signature Sign is my real sign"
No. Your Sun sign, set by your birthday, doesn't change. The Signature Sign sums up the same chart by a different rule.
"A planet must be in my Signature Sign"
Not at all. Elements and modalities are counted separately, so a sign with no planets in it can still be your Signature Sign.
"My strongest planet decides my Signature Sign"
No. All 11 points count equally, one each. This is a different measure from your most influential planet (the dominant planet).
"The same Signature Sign means great compatibility"
Your compatibility score and relationship type come from the planetary angles between your two charts. Sharing a Signature Sign only means your everyday tone is similar.
"A different result elsewhere means it's wrong"
What gets counted and how ties are broken vary from place to place. Stellog follows the method in this article.
